Las Vegas hospital workers, through their union SEIU 1107, reached a tentative agreement on June 1 with HCA that will increase pay and address understaffing at three hospitals.
The contract covers more than 4,700 healthcare workers at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center, and MountainView Hospital.
“This agreement is a tremendous step in the right direction and recognizes the value of every member of the healthcare delivery team so that we can provide the very best care to our patients,” said Adrian Martinez, who has been a registered nurse at Southern Hills Hospital for 11 years.
In March, HCA workers in Nevada began union contract negotiations on the heels of a groundbreaking report from SEIU that exposed the short-staffing crisis at HCA hospitals and its impact on workers and patients.
According to the report, staffing levels at HCA hospitals in Nevada are 34% below the national average.
