California HCA nurses protest short staffing, poor working conditions

Nurses at HCA’s Riverside Community Hospital, members of SEIU Local 1RN, picketed on August 30, speaking out against work conditions and unsafe staffing ratios they say put patient safety at risk.

Nurses on the picket line detailed a bleak picture of what goes on inside the LA-area hospital, where unsustainable staff ratios are driving nurses away, making the crisis even worse. Nurses say these ratios have begun to jeopardize patient safety.

Nurses say current concerns are similar to those that sent more than a thousand nurses out on strike for 10 days in 2020. HCA has yet to constructively address these concerns in bargaining. The nurses have been in labor negotiations with HCA for the last four months. Their contract is set to expire September 15.
